One of the most popular mountains south of Munich – perhaps because a cable car brings high-heeling sunbathers right to the all year open restaurant close to the summit. No lonely and quiet mountain experience, but with a great view anyway.
The Walchensee seems to be one of the colder places of the Bavarian Prealps. Long before leaving the forest behind, the trail was snow-covered.
From Herzogstand's peak you have an amazing view over Lake Walchen, the flat Bavarian Alpine Foreland in the north and the impressive Wetterstein and Karwendel mountain range in the south.
Jumping our way down through slushy snow took just half the time of climbing it up!
